There are several different types of coverage for RV owners, and each insurance company may offer different policies. In general motorhome insurance policies are designed to cover costs related to bodily injury, medical fees, property damage, and/or legal fees.
Comprehensive coverage, collision coverage, consequential loss, full-time use, and even roadside assistance are all typically available from any RV insurance carrier.
There is one policy type that is legally required in most states, so regardless of the type of coverage you want, you’re going to need liability insurance in order to travel around the country in your motorhome.
Liability insurance is the least expensive option to insure your motorhome. Because its coverage is limited, however, most motorhome owners choose to also add comprehensive coverage to their RV.
Liability insurance protects you against the costs of damage or injury that you caused to other property or people.
This includes things like the medical bills of other injured people, costs to repair or replace damaged property, and legal fees. Keep in mind that liability insurance does not cover damage to your vehicle or any bodily injury you suffer as a result. This coverage is there to ensure that if you injure others or damage their property, they will have the funds to address the issue.
It’s important to note that some states also require coverage for uninsured or underinsured motorists. This coverage is frequently purchased together with liability coverage.

Class A motorhomes are the largest and most spacious RVs available. Some feature gas engines, while others run on diesel. They are usually built on a bus or commercial truck chassis and feature slide outs that expand the interior space when the RV is parked.
One of the most common questions our insurance experts get asked is, “How much is Class A motorhome insurance?”
Expect to pay between several hundred dollars and several thousand dollars each year for insurance, depending on the type of coverage.
Since Class As are the largest and most expensive type of RV, they are the most expensive to insure. Since they are often used as a primary residence, many Class A owners will also need to purchase a full-time use add-on, which adds to the RV insurance cost.
Many Class A motorhomes tow vehicles behind them for daily use, and those vehicles also need auto insurance. The vast majority of states require liability coverage for automobiles.
The most compact type of motorhome, Class B RVs are built on a van chassis. They lack the space and amenities of larger vehicles, and rarely have slide outs or awnings.
The smaller size means decreased repair costs and increased mobility, making Class B motorhome insurance less expensive than either Class A or Class C (though not always by much).
In between Class A and Class B in size, Class C motorhomes provide a middle ground in terms of size, cost, and mobility that many RVers enjoy. In fact, data suggests that full-time RVers purchase Class CRVs more often than Class A.
Expect motorhome insurance costs for Class C units to be in between Class A and Class B. If you’re planning on full-timing, don’t forget to include full-time use coverage. Full-time use coverage provides protections similar to homeowner’s insurance.
Depending on the type of coverage you purchase, your motorhome and/or its contents or occupants can be covered for damage or injury related to accidents, theft, vandalism, fire, and acts of nature.
In addition, motorhomes are required to carry liability to coverage when you are driving them on the road. This coverage protects you against costs of damage or injury to others in an accident that you caused.
Motorhome insurance costs anywhere from $125 to $10,000+ a year. The majority of motorhome owners pay between $800 and $1500. The price depends on many factors:
